Today's topic from Marie at Boston Bibliophile:
Book-swapping. Do you do it? What site(s) do you use? How did you find out about them? What do you think of them? Do you use LT's book-swapping column feature for information on what to swap? Do you participate in any of the LT communities that discuss bookswapping, like the Bookmooch group for example?
I don't. No reason why really other than I'm lazy. I get most of my books from the library. I used to buy but then realized since I didn't re-read, there wasn't any reason to have most books in my house on a permanent basis. And thus, why waste my time or money to get them? Does this mean I don't go to book stores? Heck no. But usually I'll only buy one or two books, if any, but will write down a bunch of titles to look up at the library. I read about mooching and swapping and think that might be fun, but then realize that I don't have time to do the other things I want to do, so no need to start another obsession. LOL
I'm sure there are lots of swappers out there so click here to read more about it. It's a great way to get books to read!

The thing I don't like about library books is the time limit. AND my library is slow to get books in that I seem to like. I finally broke down and bought one six months ago that the library's just now got in.
Still, I do love the library :-D
All of these posts about libraries are making me feel guilty about being a book hoarder :) I really do love and appreciate libraries, but I also really love having my books and being able to go back to them. Perhaps this is a New Year's Resolution in the making.
I'm a big library girl myself:) and I thought I would try bookmooch and then I decided it was too much work too!
I do the exact same thing at the bookstore!
I used to only swap titles that aren't available at my library. But it's grown into a bit of an addiction, so that's not the case anymore!
"no need to start another obsession" lol right there with you.
I wish I could be more like you. If my husband read your post, he'd wish the same thing. (lol)
"No need to start another obsession" - no kidding. I am so addicted! But I only swap for books I can't get at the library, or that I've read from the library and want to own myself. So at least I feel like I have some sort of criteria! =)
I'm a library lover. Our library participates in a large inter-library-loan network, so there is no such thing as 'not available at the library'. Plus who wants to deal with all that shipping? I truly only own one book, that is my grandmother's copy of Gone With the Wind. It smells really old and musty - like my grandma's house did when I was a kid. Plus its my favorite book of all time!! I won't ever part with that!
